Have you watched the ESPN Segment, Todd Blackledge’s “Taste of the Town“? I have watched or taped this segment every Saturday morning during Football season to see which restaurant Todd would pick – and watch him eat some incredible food from almost every College Town in America. He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself and has now written a book about his journey on his site www.tasteofthetowntodd.com
I have been fortunate enough to visit and experience College Football in just about every stadium in America, and during those trips have enjoyed those college towns, the shopping, the people and the food.
Now that we are less than a month away from the start of the 2017 College Football season, I would like to post my picks for the one place that you cannot miss when you are in the College Town of your choice this Fall. I will start with one in the SEC. I know Todd Blackledge has highlighted this restaurant in a segment, and I can certainly see why. This is a very special place to me since I have been going there for years…so if you are headed to Rocky Top for Tennessee football, you need to take the time to drive a little bit outside the campus/downtown area and experience this restaurant either for lunch or dinner.
The restaurant is Litton’s, a family owned business founded in 1946. It has been featured in Southern Living magazine and is a favorite of locals. You will certainly feel like a local here. You will see a lot of fans decked out in Orange, a lively crowd and a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant is located in the Fountain City area of Knoxville, just a short drive from campus.
Litton’s is famous for their burgers…they grind their angus beef in-house and bake the buns fresh every day. I love the burgers, but I love, love the breaded and baked Boston Scrod. Best I have ever had. You may be so satisfied with you meal that you do not have room for dessert, but either way you must eat or take home something from the bakery. I have never left this restaurant without eating a huge slice of coconut cream pie and usually take home the orange cake for later.
Litton’s is open every day except Sunday. They do not take reservations.
